Discover the Missions of San Antonio

  • Scenario*: Journey to the shores of the San Antonio River in Texas to learn about the transformation that began 300 years ago, and continues to unfold there today.  The community of San Antonio, Texas is rich with history, community, and lessons for others to learn from. A beautiful new people emerged as cultures merged as a result of centuries of building, developing, trials, losses and explorations.

  • Task: The task was to create a learning experience that would introduce young adult and adult learners to the origins and the history the San Antonio missions so they would understand the impact this brought to bear on the development of the communities in this region. This lesson connects history with modern day community with issues learners can relate to today.

  • Action: Using Adobe Captivate, I created a 15-min learning experience with four modules. Each module focused on an feature of the region's history and development. Learners are presented with content on interactive slides, multi media to enrich aspects of the experience and formative assessments designed to measure learning. Unless otherwise noted, I captured the images and video during a recent visit to San Antonio.

  • Result: The result is a sensory rich, informative learning experience that takes the learner on a journey through multiple aspects of the San Antonio community. Learners have a greater appreciation for the history and the challenges the people of the region endured, as well as their triumphs in agriculture, architecture, culture and life. This resource could be stand alone, or incorporated into lessons about the US history, or diversity, equity and inclusion. Learning experience available on mobile and desktop.

Access Student Report Card in School Tool

  • Scenario: The K12 School District informed parents they were no longer mailing home paper copies of the students' report cards. Parents must login to the district's online student information portal, School Tool, to access the report cards.

  • Task: The task was to create a learning aid to support parents to help them locate their student's report card in School Tool, and to print it. The goal is to offer an alternate to the text based instructions they received by mail.

  • Action: Using Adobe Captivate, I created a software simulation demo that takes the learner through the steps of logging in, accessing the correct menu and orients them to the information that is presented. By design, the experience is approximately two minutes in duration. The aim is to be a quick, easy to consume resource parents can use with convenience.

  • Result: The result is a quick, easy to consume resource parents can use with convenience. Novice or infrequent users of School Tool find it challenging to navigate the menus, as well as make the correct selections. This handy resource with a stated objective, clear visuals, minimal design elements with voice narrations that accompany the onscreen mouse menu selections give parents the power to navigate School Tool with hassle free confidence so they can get in, and get their student's grades information so they can get on with parenting. Learning experience available on mobile and desktop.
