ADK Adventure Awaits
This project introduces three different outdoor adventures, and packs in helpful information the explorer needs to know for safety and comfort. The participant choose the adventure type, learns about a destination, how to get there, some of the gear they will need and how to safely enjoy their time on the journey. Graphics and imagery are in a fun, whimsy theme aimed to the young adult and up audience. The experience offers helpful tips and purchase recommendations with links to local businesses. We think this would make a fun a fun station in a retail store, visitors center, or community fair. What do you think?
Situation*: Organization would like to educate young people on enjoying the great outdoors.
Task: Our task was to build an educational experience that was self-driven, and appealing to a young audience.
Action: Research included gathering recommendations for popular destinations, gear, and safety measures from Department of Environmental Conversation websites and more. We tested the experience with several beta subjects and made adjustments to the experience. We checked color choice against accessibility requirements.
Results: Participants who completed one or more of the adventures indicated they enjoyed the user friendly experience, and felt they were more informed regarding options for taking outdoor adventures in the Adirondacks.
